Focus on… Reigate
In our series looking at the towns we rent and sell in, we take you through just what living in the area is like as well as plenty of top things to do and attractions around the towns.
First up is the place we have called home for our offices since 2011, the attractive market town of Reigate…
Where is Reigate?
The town of Reigate is home to around 20,000 people and is situated in Surrey, at the foot of the North Downs. It’s just 25 miles from London and is ideally situated just 20 minutes from London Gatwick Airport. It also has handy access to the M25 Junction 8, opening it up to much of the south and beyond.
Why live here?
As it’s on the commuter belt to London, it’s an ideal place for those looking for a more rural life out of the city, but with plenty to do on the doorstep – from unspoilt countryside to a bustling but still fairly quaint town. Plus, for families there are plenty of top schools in and around Reigate.
For prospective buyers and tenants, there’s a great mix of properties available from historic Victorian homes to newer apartments and flats with all the modern amenities.
What is there to do?
Did you know Reigate once had a castle? Constructed in the 12th Century, there is very little left of the castle, but there are remains which have been built into a mock medieval gate. Reigate Caves are also notable, and the public can visit throughout different times of the year.
As the town is set around the Surrey Hills there are some superb spots for walking and taking in the views - head to Reigate Hill for glorious views across the downs.
The town has a plethora of shops, independent boutiques and cafes and restaurants galore, attracting locals as well as those from out of town looking for a rather quaint high street to shop, dine and drink.
Located in the town centre is the delightful Priory Park - home to tennis courts, a skatepark, playground a picnic area and much more.
