As the clocks go back this weekend, the darker nights are drawing in and Christmas treats are filling the supermarket shelves.
But alongside the gingerbread lattes and cosy evenings in, comes the shorter, colder, wetter days – which can often make house viewings a little challenging compared to the summer months when your home is basking in sunshine.
Here at Surrey and West Sussex estate agency Clarendons, we’ve come up with a few helpful tips to make selling or renting out your property out during the winter that little bit easier…
Earlier Viewings
It may sound simple, but if you are looking to sell or let out your home during the winter period, then it’s worth scheduling in viewings earlier in the day so your potential buyers or tenants get to see the house and garden in the natural daylight.
Vacant Properties
If the property you have on the market is empty, try to ensure that you have power and heating switched on where possible. While you don’t want to waste energy right now, it’s good to book a block of viewings and have some heat and electricity to the property during that time – if you have someone viewing on a freezing January day you still want to make it as inviting and welcoming as you can.
Make it Cosy
If you do have afternoon or evening viewings this winter, try to make your home as attractive and as cosy as possible - think soft lighting, candles (we love the soy-wax eco-friendly ones personally), throws and cushions. And if you have a fireplace, even better to create that warming ambience.
Don’t forget the Garden
Gardens are often neglected over the winter period, but try to keep it as tidy as possible - sweep away any leaves and rubbish so that prospective buyers or tenants can picture themselves enjoying warmer days out there.
